Originally “The Royal Thai Army School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Public Health”, the Royal Thai Army Nursing College was established on August 19, 1963, by Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat, the then Prime Minister, with objectives to produce the registered nurses for the Royal Thai Army, and to solve the nursing staff shortage in Thailand during the post-World War II. Since then, August 19 of every year is considered the Royal Thai Army Nursing College Establishment Day.
With its mission to produce the nursing staff for agencies under the Royal Thai Army and other national purposes, the Royal Thai Army Nursing College focuses on the nursing staff’s quality. Since 1964 to 1984, under the name of the Royal Thai Army School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Public Health, the high-quality nursing staffs had been continually generated. Until 1984, it was promoted to “Royal Thai Army Nursing College”, and then in 1985, it was approved as an organization affiliated to Mahidol University according to Promulgation of the Ministry of University Affairs dated June 25, 1986. Therefore, Bachelor of Nursing Science from Mahidol University would be conferred to the graduates in Nursing Science Program of the Royal Thai Army Nursing College.
1964 – 1973 Establishment of Certificate in the Royal Thai Army School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Public Health (4-year Program)
1974 – 1980 Establishment of Certificate in the Royal Thai Army School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Public Health (Equivalent to Diploma) (3.5-year Program)
1981 – 1984 Establishment of Nursing Science Program (Equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree)
1984 – Present Establishment of Nursing Science Program in Bachelor’s Degree, which was later improved in 1990 to be Bachelor of Nursing Science Program up until now
2001 – 2004 Establishment of Bachelor of Nursing Science Program (1.5-year Continuing Program) for three classes
Apart from the generation of the nurses in the Bachelor of Nursing Science Program and the Bachelor of Nursing Science Program (1.5-year Continuing Program), the Royal Thai Army Nursing College also carries on the mission of the enhancement of the nursing staff’s skills by establishing Certificate in Practical Nursing (1-year Program) in 1978 – 2001, which was a temporary program established periodically to solve the shortage of the nursing staff.
In 2001 until now, Nursing Specialty Program in Nursing Administration, Critical Care Nursing, and Nurse Practitioner, etc. which is 16-week short-term programs, including a Program in Health Counselling which is an 8-week program. Every year, two of these programs would be opened for enrollment in order to improve knowledge and skills of the nursing staff of the Royal Thai Army and the country.
